Downtown Miami families have a particular problem when it comes to junior tennis: there’s almost nowhere to play, let alone learn. Bayfront Park doesn’t have courts. The Conrad and a few condo buildings have private courts, but they’re not teaching programs. To find real junior development from the Brickell / Downtown / Edgewater corridor, you’ve historically had to drive 20+ minutes — often into Coral Gables or further.
TennisFIT changes that math. We’re at Henderson Park, 950 NW 3rd St — about 6 to 10 minutes from most Downtown and Brickell addresses, free parking, no membership required.
What It Takes to Get Your Kid Here
From the urban core, this is what the commute looks like:
- Brickell (financial district): 6–8 minutes via I-95 or 7th Ave
- Downtown / River District: 4–6 minutes
- Edgewater / Midtown: 8–12 minutes
- Wynwood / Design District: 8–10 minutes
We run sessions on after-school hours (3:30 PM onward) and Saturday mornings. For working parents, the after-school slot is built around the typical Downtown work pattern — drop the kid for lessons at 4 PM, finish your work day, pick them up at 5:30 PM.
Why Downtown Parents Choose TennisFIT
Three things keep us full of Downtown and Brickell juniors:
1. The court access problem solved. You don’t need to be a club member, you don’t need to know someone at the Conrad, you don’t need to bribe your building manager for court time. Free public courts at a city park, available year-round.
2. The structure problem solved. Most “tennis at the park” experiences are unstructured — coach feeds balls, kids hit them, that’s it. Our sessions have a real curriculum: warm-up, technical focus, live drills, point play. Your kid is actually learning, not just running around.
3. The commitment problem solved. No multi-year club membership. No enrollment fees. Monthly programs, drop-in pricing, private lesson options — whatever fits your family’s actual schedule.
What Junior TennisFIT Includes
Every junior session is 60 to 90 minutes depending on level, and follows the same general structure:
Movement & Warm-up (10 min). Dynamic stretching, footwork drills, coordination work. Not optional. The single biggest predictor of junior development is movement quality — we put it first because it matters most.
Technical Focus (25 min). One specific skill per session — maybe split step timing, maybe forehand contact point, maybe serve toss consistency. Built on across the month so kids see real progress.
Live Ball Drills (25 min). Coach feeds or partner rallies, applying the technical focus into game-realistic patterns.
Point Play (15 min). Real points. Coach intervening for teachable moments. Not just unsupervised play.
Age & Level Breakdown
We organize by ability, but here’s roughly how it works:
Ages 5–8 (Red Ball). Foam ball, short court, oversized racquet. The goal is coordination and love of the sport. Hitting yellow balls on a full court at this age is a great way to build a kid who quits at 10.
Ages 8–11 (Orange/Green Ball). Lower-compression balls, 3/4 to full court. Real stroke mechanics begin. This is where serious junior development starts.
Ages 11+ (Green/Yellow Ball). Full court, regulation play. Tactical work, conditioning, optional tournament prep for kids who want competitive paths.
A Note for Brickell Parents Specifically
We get a lot of families from Brickell. Common questions:
“Is it safe for me to drop my kid off and leave?” Yes — Henderson Park is a city park with active programming, regular foot traffic, and our coaches are there from session start to session end. We don’t run sessions where kids are unsupervised at any point.
“What if there’s a weather issue?” Miami weather happens. We have rain protocols and reschedule policies built in. You won’t lose a session because of a downpour.
“My kid is on the autism spectrum / has ADHD / has a specific need.” Tell us before the trial. We’ve worked with kids across the spectrum. We can adjust group dynamics, session structure, and communication to make it work.
How to Start
- Watch a session. Come to Henderson Park, see how it runs. No commitment, no pitch.
- Trial lesson. Single session, see how your kid responds.
- Enroll if it’s a fit.
That’s the whole process.
